Riverside Drama Circle overcame the challenges posed by the current pandemic by staging its first ever LIVE radio play using Zoom technology on Thursday, 30th July.
The cast, director and production team, consisting of 7 persons, were all located in their individual homes in North Dublin and performed the show without any visual contact of each other. The play, Thin Ice, was written originally for stage by local playwright, Denis Byrne, and adapted by Denis for a ‘radio audience’.

The play touched on some very sensitive family and social issues. Feedback from the audience has been very positive. At time of curtain up, the group had received 97 reservations from persons wishing to connect.
Declan Cahill, director of the production said – ‘Faced with the prospect of no live theatre for many months ahead and keen to maintain contact with both our actors and our very loyal supporters, we decided a couple of months ago to research and examine other ways to perform. And so we came up with the idea of a radio play using internet technology. Of course we could have recorded the play, but we decided to bring it to our audience in a real live situation. And thankfully it worked.’.
